Finding our Creativity

Where does our creativity come from? It is so different for so many people. One of the things that I love doing is visiting antique shops and sifting through old items of the past.  Another word for it is Junking! You never know what you will find our who you will run into.

Many of you know me for my vintage inspired creations and my admiration for Tim Holtz.  Not only do I love his product, but I love his style and I get a lot of my inspiration from him.  I think the biggest gift he has given me is the ability to let go and own the "imperfections" of my designs. It was only then that I could really build on my style.

I also love taking lots of pictures while junking. I am not sure exactly what I will do with them, but they make me  happy and I am inspired by them.  I may frame them and put them up in my studio so I am surrounded by yesteryear while I create.

The booths give me decorating ideas and If I am lucky I may even find a few items that I can use as props for the photos of my designs. Now if I am really lucky, I can find an item that is great aesthetically as well as practical.

I found this old cabinet that looked awesome. When I opened it up, I knew exactly what I could use it for. It was just the perfect size to hold my washi tape.

So I would say that my day was complete. I finally got to me one of my favorite people and I found a great addition to my studio.  All in all...a good day!

Creating your own ephemera

Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the last few days of 2016. I decided I needed to make one more video before the end of the year and of course I wanted it to be a celebration of the new year and month that is just around the corner.

The paper I am working with is from Graphic 45 and is called Time to Flourish. I picked it because it had some great words and sentiments on one side and some vibrant images on the other.

I love creating layered cards and ephemera works great for this technique. But sometimes you can't find the exact ephemera that you want for your design.  So I decided to create a video to show you how I create my own.

To see how I created this card, click on the link above. This can work with any cardstock that has great vibrant images.

I hope everyone has a Happy Holiday Season and rest up for the new year. I am really looking forward to 2017!

For your convenience, I have provided a list of all the items I used to create this card.

Coffee Lover's blog hop - Day 4

It is day 4 of the Coffee Lover's Blog Hop! I am creating as I go along. I put this together last night pretty quickly, but it goes to show you that fast cards can turn out great as well.

Can you tell I am happy with the card? LOL!!!

I used Versamark and a little coffee stamp I have to create the background. I then added evergreen bough distress ink to give color to the background.  I thought it needed just a bit more, so I added peacock feathers using a background stamp and sentiment from Tim Holtz.

As a final touch, I added some black Nuvo drops and twine.

Hope you lie it!

Burlap Christmas Canvas

I love digging through old family photos and when I found this one, I knew I had to create some sort of family keepsake. I wanted to create something I could display every holiday season as a keepsake and reminder of my Mother-in-law who is no longer with our family.

This photo is of my husband's mom when she was a child. She is the one sitting on the left.  It is a great vintage Santa photo, but makes it even more special having a family member in it.

I created this burlap panel using ephemera and metal elements from Tim Holtz.  To see how I created this burlap wall hanging click on my video below.

In this video I talk about what worked and what didn't. Hopefully it will give you some tips if you decide to create one of these keepsakes of your own. I have listed all the products I used below.
